headteacher's Welcome
I am delighted to welcome you to our school website and I hope that it gives you a flavour of what life and learning here are like. The St. Edward’s school values: service, excellence, respect and faith, encapsulate what makes St. Edward’s so special. We believe very strongly here that every young person who joins us should be given the opportunity to develop their individual skills and talents and reach their full potential both academically and personally. They should leave us fully equipped for the next stage in their education, eager and willing to go out and make a real difference to their community.
St. Edward’s Royal Free Ecumenical Middle School is a distinctly Christian school, where each individual is valued, nurtured and provided with the opportunity to flourish.
Our school vision is based around the parable of the mustard seed. We believe very much that our students come to us, like seeds, with untapped potential and the capacity to grow into something amazing, and our job here is to make that happen.
Recent inspections show how successful our school is in fulfilling that vision of growth. We were thrilled that Ofsted recognised the many strengths of our school in their inspection of September 2022 where we were graded as Good overall and Outstanding in the area of Personal Development. We also had a very successful SIAMs inspection in July 2024 (Could you put the links in to the inspection page on our website for both the Ofsted and SIAMS report) We have a strong track record of success and high quality provision over many years, with a proportion of students achieving beyond expectations and attaining results above both national and local benchmarks (click here to see our results). In our school we recognise the importance of a broad and balanced curriculum alongside a substantial extra-curricular offer. We provide fantastic opportunities for pupils to develop their talents in a variety of different areas and to celebrate their success in these areas as a community together.
We are fortunate at St. Edward’s to enjoy fantastic, well-maintained buildings and grounds. Our superb facilities allow pupils opportunities across all subjects, including practical ones such as Science and Technology, to really experience hands on learning from an early age. We are committed to ensuring that our pupils have the best possible learning environment but also that they are happy and enthusiastic to learn.
I started here as the new Headteacher in September 2020 and I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to lead St. Edward’s Royal Free. The pupils here have a fantastic and unique experience, they participate fully in school life, contribute to the school’s development and experience a wide variety of enrichment opportunities. I look forward to meeting you and I do hope that you choose for your child to join our successful, happy community.
